Since appearing in 1978, The Missouri Review has had a history of being the first to publish award-winning authors. Each issue "contains approximately five new stories, three new poetry features, and two essays". TMR, published quarterly by the University of Missouri, is a paying and highly competitive literary market, receiving around 12,000 submissions a year.
